COPING WITH TRIGGERS AFTER AN ASSAULT

COPING WITH TRIGGERS AFTER AN ASSAULT

Triggers are things that transport a survivor back to their sexual abuse, and can be activated by one or more of the senses. Even though they can catch a person off guard, survivors can learn how to anticipate and manage them, in addition to discovering how to honour where they’re at on their healing journey.

This is something I still struggle with, idk if it’s from multiple traumas or just being raped and sexually assaulted 5 times, like the first time didn’t almost drive me to suicide. They drugged my soda, I was a virgin, I blacked out and was awoken to a punch on the side of my head. I couldn’t see their faces, there were 2 beating me and raping me, no one believed me, then I get the courage to go back to school and they had this song going around 1,2 switcheroo and someone had to tell me what it meant and who did it. They never go their karma, and then just for it to happen again and again in my teenage years, it’s like men in general trigger me and everyone just makes me feel like I belong in a psych ward
